Equity Policy Research Fellow (Summer)

PAY: $30/hour
DURATION: 12 weeks - From Late May/Early June 2026 to Late Aug/Early Sept 2026
LOCATION: San Francisco (Hybrid Work Schedule from SF Office)

FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Partnership’s Equity Policy Research Fellowship Program is a 12-week intensive training and coaching program for existing undergraduate and graduate students intended to foster the next generation of housing policy leaders and scholars from underrepresented groups and individuals from lower-income backgrounds.
The Partnership provides fellows with training, mentoring, and networking opportunities, such as:
- Education and hands-on experience in affordable housing research and policy.
- Fostering professional skill development in policy analysis and research.
- Opportunities for state-level policy advocacy and networking with leaders in affordable housing.
Summer Fellows will gain experience in:
- Contributing to a variety of affordable housing research projects through data analysis and visualizations, composing internal memos, drafting presentations, and (potentially) contributing to external reports.
- Conducting comprehensive research on emerging affordable housing topics and contributing to policy development.
- Engaging with various stakeholders to understand the multifaceted challenges in affordable housing.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
We recognize that each applicant for this fellowship will bring unique skills, knowledge, experiences, and background to this position. We welcome diverse experiences and perspectives in our applicant pool, and at a minimum are seeking candidates who possess the following:
- Interest in helping to preserve and produce affordable housing for low-income households as demonstrated in your cover letter and/or resume.
- Currently enrolled as a
- senior in an undergraduate program at a college or university located in California, studying Public Policy, Planning, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, or a related field, or;
- first, second, or third year in a graduate program at a college or university located in California, studying Public Policy, Planning, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, or a related field.
- Experience writing literature reviews, methodological summaries, and data analysis results.
- Excellent quantitative research skills
- Some experience with a research database program, like R, Python, STATA, SPSS, SAS, etc.
- Intermediate experience with Excel is preferred
- Willing and able to relocate to San Francisco, CA or within a commutable distance while taking part in the fellowship during the summer.

ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA HOUSING PARTNERSHIP
The Partnership is a dynamic nonprofit “think and do tank” providing critical technical assistance, training, applied research and policy leadership to increase the production and preservation of affordable and sustainable homes serving Californians who are low-income.
